1. What are inspection and quarantine procedures for importing meat products?

Firstly, importer of meat products shall obtain “Consignee Filing Qualification for Imported Meat Products”. Secondly, importer of meat products shall choose meat products or imported meat products from manufacturer which are from “The Imported Food Catalog of Countries or Regions that Conform to the Review Requirements and have Traditional Trade ” issued by AQSIQ. Importer shall apply approval procedures before sign the trading contract, and obtain License for Enter the Animal and Plant Quarantine. After obtaining the license, importer or its agent shall report for inspection to the port of entry inspection and quarantine authority before or at entering the customs territory. Inspection and quarantine department will conduct inspection to imported meat products in accordance with related requirements. Imported meat products shall be stored at cold storage with Cold Storage Filling Qualification for Imported Meat Products. Inspection and quarantine department will provide Inspection and Quarantine Certificate for Imported products for the qualified products, which are allowed to process, sell and use. Inspection and quarantine department will provide Treatment Notification about Inspection and Quarantine for unqualified products, and supervise the treatment of importer or its agent.

 

2. Does China allow importing Japanese beef and beef products, Japanese pork and pork products, and Japanese chicken and chicken products at present?

According to Inspection and Quarantine Administrative Measures for Importing and Exporting Meat Products (No. 136 of AQSIQ), imported meat products shall comply with Chinese law, administrative rules and regulations, requirements of food safety national standards, and related protocol between China and exporting countries or regions, agreement, memorandum or other regulated inspection and quarantine requirements or quarantine requirements on trade contract. According to The Imported Food Catalog of Countries or Regions that Conform to the Review Requirements and have Traditional Trade, it does not allow to import meat and meat products from Japan.

 

3. Which countries can import meat products?
